About
Just before their 18th birthday, the german ska-band “Blue Babies” recorded a new album: that Baby is called “F.B.I.” (Fast Beat Inc.) and is being released on 29th January 2010 under the “Jazzhaus Records” label. The CD comprises of eleven tracks, eight of which are their own songs, garnished with intricate fast- and offbeats, which won’t let you keep still, as well great new and, for the Babies, untypical sounds. The Blue Babies spent the entire summer of 2009 locked up in a studio with the producer Philipp Rauenbusch, also the bass player from “Reamonn”, and worked meticulously on the songs and recordings. Meanwhile, a couple of well-known fellow musicians came by and enhanced the album with one or two musical accents. For example, the former Babies-member, now guitarist with Reamonn, Uwe “Magic” Bossert, unpacked his Gretsch for a guitar solo or Robert Solomon, trombone player with fellow ska-band “The Busters”, added a choice touch of brass. An enormous stylistic spectrum makes this long-player especially remarkable. A typical basic element of the Babies is the offbeat, however it is repeatedly broken up by unusual or unexpected stylistic excursions. The result is country next to polka and Indian sounds, or even a ballad. The disc is characterised by the particular timbre of the instrumentation, the trademark of the group. Accordion and saxophone, double bass and electric guitar, drums and two lead vocals bring their own songs as well as cover versions to teem with danceable power. Certain songs were refined by the dedication of guest musicians, so now and then the guest-trombone can be heard next to the sounds of a piano, violin or even sitar. Result: two years after their last album, the Blue Babies have created a captivating successor with danceable up-beat numbers, relaxed first-wave ska and an exceptional musical spectrum which, after an initial pounding through, makes you want to indulge in peace from beginning to end.
