About John Lee Hooker Jr.

John Lee Hooker Jr. was born in Detroit “Motor” City with Delta blues-filled blood running through his Motown veins. The son of the great John Lee Hooker, he was exposed the life of the blues from a young age. At only eight years old John Lee Hooker Jr. performed on Detroit’s WJBK radio and knew from that moment that he wanted to follow the path of his father and become a world-class musician. Touring alongside Sr. throughout his teens, John Lee Hooker Jr. had already performed in prestigious venues such as Detroit’s Fox Theatre with acclaimed musicians like Jimmy Reed by the time he was 16. In 1972, an eighteen year-old John Lee Hooker Jr. was singing vocals alongside his father for the recording of Hooker, Sr.’s album Live at Soledad Prison (ABC Records).

With his third release, “All Odds Against Me” John Lee Hooker Jr. continued to carry blues into the 21st century. The 12-song album was released in Europe on Jazzhaus Records in 2008.

“One of the greatest and most exciting things that has ever happened in my career, was the blessed chance to go to Istanbul and perform in front of the wonderful Turkish people, and if that wasn‘t enough, they allowed us to record this live CD in front of the most exciting crowds I have ever per-formed in front of.”

His fourth CD “Live in Istanbul, Turkey” contains 14 songs, a mixture of his existing records, you will also find three new tracks on the new album. An animated video of “Extramaterial Affair” can be watched on his homepage.. John Lee Hooker Jr. continues to stretch the envelope, becoming blues’ first animated superhero in a cartoon.
