About The Brew

The Brew, “one of the most thrilling live acts of our time“ (Rocks magazine), present their new album while on tour in Germany in October. “The Third Floor” (Jazzhaus Records/in-akustik, release: 26th August 2011) is the title of the album which was produced by the British trio in cooperation with producer Chris West (The Verve, Status Quo). The songs resemble a “mixture of old school and modern rock”, says Kurtis Smith, describing the style of the extremely homogeneous band in which he (*03/1988) plays the drums. The band is completed by his father (bass) and the even younger frontman Jason Barwick (*06/1989). The three who play together since 2004 take their inspiration from their shared affection to “Led Zeppelin, the early Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Wolfmother, The Raconteurs, Kula Shaker or The Black Keys”. “Tear down walls and reach as many people as possible. That’s what we want!”, reveals Kurtis Smith. This is resembled in their audience which spans across generations, similar to their sound.

Third Floor with its title song, which deals with live on tour and “the fact that we usually stay on the third floor in hotels” (Tim Smith), is supposed to lift the band to the next level in their career. Crucial element for their success is their dynamic performances which are bursting with energy. The band from Northeast England always fully satisfies their audience with their gigs. The intensity of their music within the alternately impulsive or sensitive performance – “we always give 110%” (Tim Smith) – brings back memories of the shows of The Who (“Tommy”). The obvious enthusiasm on the stage transfers to the audience before long. With their tour in fall, The Brew will once more display why they, who “bring the dull bluesrock of the seventies to live” (Donaukurier), are predicted a great future.
